Awesome, thanks. I will keep practicing; I have been encouraged by what progress I have made. It is taking a long time but I'll be sure to share with you all when I am able to do this sort of pose. I do practice with down dog and plank a lot but I can't yet do handstands, even on the wall. I'm afraid to really try without someone to coach me which probably means I know I'm not ready. I'm sure that, as you said, when my strength is built up enough, I'll know it and be able to do it. That's what keeps me doing it. :)
that IS the key;) i've said it before and i'll say it again, i was in great need of arm and upper body strength. it took some time with other poses, like down dog, plank, dolphin, plow and handstands to the wall, etc. to build up mine. you'll know when you've become stronger, too. you'll know when you're ready for something new. one helpful tip i'll share, though.......and it's kinda funny, but real.......i kept frogging the backs of my arms with my bony legs. lol. it took some finagling to get the position of my knees just right to NOT frog myself. so, be careful there;) as for where my focus is - it's in the balance, i suppose. getting in this 'position' isn't that hard part, but finding my balance. that's where the strength came in. the strength is what aids your balance.as carrie said, practice practice practice. lol.

The way to work into this pose is to position yourself as Aura has, then lift one foot up while maintaining the other foot on the ground. It requires massive arm strength...which needs to build up. And it will as long as you practice. That is the key to asanas! Practice, practice, practice. So remember, put one knee on the elbow and balance yourself with one foot, then the other foot. Soon you will be able to do it.... if not soon, later after the strength has built! Focus on the ARM strength, not the lifting of the feet!!
This is another pose I tried for the first time today. I couldn't even get my feet off the floor. Maybe you have some tips on where your focus and strength are concentrated?
