aura )O( ~new things~

so, i'm trying to incorporate some new poses into my routine. this is a first attempt. it can only get better from here, yeah? lol. yeah, i need to raise my bum a little more, i know:) there are a few more, also, that i'll post when i get them a little better. this one, even though not at all perfect, turned out pretty good for a first time? (i think. lol). i have to say that in just the past year, i've grown so much in my practice! doing things i never thought i would be able to do, learning th… Continue

aura )O( ~my son and me~

i have three kids, right. 12 yrs, 10 yrs, and 8 yrs. well, my 10 year old surely follows my nature about being physically fit. sometimes, but not always sports, but just like to work out with weights and loves to try some of my yoga poses, too. we just took a pic today of us both doing a pose together and it's now my favorite pic ever! lol. i'm so impressed with him having the motivation to do this. he's not all about all of it, but he has an interest i think i'm surely going to start nurturing.… Continue

ellen Day 18 Post-Surgery (Total Hip Replacement)

Whew, I did it! The morning of the surgery I got up, did my yoga, taking as long as I wanted to stretch out my muscles and relax. I was really focusing on my breathing and my thigh muscles, since I knew there would be pain and trauma. I now know that doing this on a regular basis prior to surgery really helped me afterwards! My swelling has gone down quickly compared to others having this same surgery, and my range of motion with the wrangled muscles (my hip to my toes) is much greater than it w… Continue

aura )O( ~excitement~

k, just sharing a little excitement with all. lol. two of my main goals in yoga have been the scorpion and the inverted plank. well, it's taken time and perserverance, but one of them is here! the other one is really close, but for now, check it! he he he.....i'm so excited. i've grown so much and come so far. it's not perfectly straight up, but hey, i'm not gonna be picky. lol. plus, i'm so trying to get past that 'perfect' syndrom. k, rambling done!… Continue

aura )O( ~pfh~

just jotting down some stray thoughts here, so no real thing to say. i was just thinking how funny it is that some things come so easily and others not. what comes easy to one is hard for another. but, what about oneself? example: i've been working on my arm strength for a bit, now, and have come a long way. the crane, firefly, headstand and forearm stand are all accomplished. but i'll be a monkey's uncle if that handstand and full side plank don't still illude me. i still need the silly wall fo… Continue

aura )O( ~this was just funny~

You are a YIP You are Yogically hip; the purveyor of the cool, tight and trendy pimp chic look of contemporary Yoga. Fed by the Yoga Industrial Marketing and Merchandising Complex, you have evolved the simple needs of Yoga into an alt-Yogic lifestyle. Too hip to read Yoga magazines (though you will sneak peeks from time to time to verify how ahead of the Yoga curve you are) you seek out the too cool and post-mod ideas on Buddhist web sites. You will have the Black Manduka Yoga mat, ultra-hip s… Continue

ellen Class #3

Whew, I missed last week and my whole body bunched up and revolted. I feel like I'm also more sensitive to what I consume than I ever have been, or at least I notice it now! But I went to yoga therapy this morning and feel much better now, some of the pain that had built back up has been relieved, and I feel inspired to keep using what I've learned. My surgery is scheduled for July 15th and it seems so far away right now. Carrie mentioned a juice fast and I think I'll do smoothies for the rest o… Continue

aura )O( ~surprised~

k, so here lately, i've been adding more arm strengthening poses so as to prepare for serious inversions (to join my inversion junkie friend. lol) one thing i thought for sure i would never even attempt was a head stand. it just looks like you'd break your neck, right? even a supported one. so that was never really a thought. until today. i was looking at these 'yoga helpful hints' and they were showing how to do a supported head stand without hurting yourself, right? ok. so i watch it. the funn… Continue

Michelle Awakening...

I have never been an avid reader of books, but a friend handed this book to me one day and said, "here see if you can make sense of all this". It was meant to be...
I literally just finished a book (A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose - by: Eckhart Tolle), and at first,… Continue

aura )O( ~firefly~

here's my first pic of an imperfect firefly. i'm still working on it, but it's coming along rather quickly. i'm happy. another week or so and i'm sure i'll have it perfect. (knees straight and butt lifted). anyhoo, it's not too bad for a first pic, yeah? at least i'll be able to compare with better future pics. lol. Continue

aura )O( ~little lessons~

just taking note of little things. like, really needing some kind of padding for crane pose. talk about frogging the muscle. erg. sometimes i can manage it fine, without cushion. other times, i put a knot in my tricept quick! ow! anyhoo, noticing that forearm stands are easier to practice than handstands. who woulda thunk it? i'm gonna get that scorpion before ya know. lol. added a couple more arches. one would think that an arch is an arch, but no, each one is very different. lucky i have a kna… Continue

aura )O( ~stillness~

serene..........calm.......peace.......stillness........... my meditations can go either way. sometimes long, sometimes short. sometimes deep, sometimes cluttered. today was a rarety. finding that inner stillness; like calm waters, shining as glass in the sun, without a ripple. no under currents. no noise. just clear stillness. how wonderful.....................remarkable! aura )O( ~interesting coincidence?~

just thought i'd jot down an interesting coincidence here. nothing major, just interesting to me:) k, so i ordered a mala bracelet earlier today and even though i had a good idea of how to use them, i decided to look it up just to make sure, right? (i'm not fond of being misinformed. lol.) anyhoo, so i looked at this youtube video that was just the hands of this guy holding his mala necklace and explaining the basic use of it. he spoke of a simple mantra that one can begin with, 'so ham'. he exp… Continue

ellen Day #8

My 2nd class was today. I could definitely stretch farther, and it all felt a little easier, but I'm really feeling it now in my hip! Perhaps I overdid the rotation just a bit, huh?! But the energy level is good, and I know I feel better than I would if I hadn't gone :-) Stuck to my lower calorie and healthier diet today too, had a green smoothie for supper (broccoli, salad greens, orange, apple, a bit of vanilla soymilk and cherry juice with ice). I practiced sitting yoga style when I drove tod… Continue

Carrie B! Trying my hand at Videographer

Aura@! for you!!! Ok, if all this works you will have your very first video by me to YOU about the Ujyaii breathing I was telling you about. It's trying to load now. If it doesn't work out so good, it can only get better! Actually there are a couple applications on ning that haven't worked so well. One is the video uploading. The other being the NOTES of interest. I've tried adding some in the past week but have been unable to do so. We'll see????!!! Continue

aura )O( ~light as air~

just blogging today's yoga....................light as air:) i begin my practice as always and thought, "hold each pose as long as you can without hurting". (i dunno why, but that was my feeling, so i went with it). each pose came so perfectly, so gently. i held each one, concentrating on just that moment, breath easy, feeling calm and wonderful. no tightness, no effort, everything flowed like nature. by the time i was done, i hadn't felt like i did any "work". i felt light as air:) i feel like… Continue

ellen Day #3

The yoga made me feel so good!, so I think I overdid my other activities and was hurting last night. Walking is not so bad, but standing is not good. I went on a tour of an art studio, historic printing press, and mansion yesterday and in effect, I stood on one leg for 1-1/2 hours (can't distribute weight evenly on both hips when standing), and ended up tossing and turning last night. I did my yoga breathing and some prone postures in bed, half asleep, and it helped. Now that I know a little mor… Continue

I made it through my first Hurricane!!

If you hadn't heard by now I moved to Houston to teach ART in the Aldine Independent School District at Nimitz 9th Grade. I am teaching 175 students a day! Yes, you heard that right! (They have 1000 ninth graders at this school!) I've had struggles with mostly noise levels and erratic behavior that any 9th grader can distribute!! I have one of my own. But let me say how happy I am to be

A run through the Magnolia, TX Neighborhood

This morning I journeyed on a run through my brother's neighborhood. The run was fantastic. Not too hot or humid. Before I left I, of course, did some yoga asanas to elongate my spine and stretch my hip flexors and stretch my ankles. Before I left my mother was making breakfast for her Grandchildren. I actually saw her put olive oil in the pan to make scrambled eggs. To myself and a slight

Even Keel Yoga Pants

My new friend Liz, owner of Even Keel Yoga Pants made of Bamboo and Organic Cotton mailed me a pair of the shorts...and let me tell you the material is like wearing nothing. It breathes, it's total comfort and perfect, of course for yoga or any exercise you enjoy! I'd love to tell you right here about the pants, but her site is truly awesome and explains the materials and how well and why they
